inside the international best-dressed list hall of fame

The International Best-Dressed List was formed in 1940 by Eleanor Lambert as a bid to boost America’s fashion reputation. Since then it has played homage to the most preened and polished stars in Tinseltown.

Each year, those who have appeared on the list published by Vanity Fair three times are granted membership to the Hall of Fame to appear alongside fashionistas such as Grace Kelly and Anna Wintour. Here are some of the stars that have made it into the Hall of Fame:

David Beckham – inducted 2010

The football star’s love of Savile Row suits is what he is most famous for in fashion terms, but whether it’s haute couture or biker chic, the man looks great.

Sophia Loren – inducted 1988

The original Italian bombshell was known for her wasp-waisted dresses, dangling earrings and her dangerously good looks. The ultimate sex goddess was switched on when it came to accentuating her slender neck and hour glass figure.

Nicole Kidman – inducted 2004

The strawberry-blonde Australian effortlessly portrays a demure, classic style with a provocative twist. A good example of this mix was her high-neck black dress with a plunging diamante studded back that she wore to the Tribeca Film Festival in 2005.

Cary Grant – inducted 1969

The movie star’s winning smile and impeccable taste in fashion put him firmly on the best dressed list for many years. Whether casually sipping a beer or walking the red carpet in a tailored suit, Grant always looked the perfect English gentleman.
